Day One Highlights

  • Arrived in Taiwan at 6:00 A.M. after a 14 hour flight.  It was the longest flight of my life.
  • Visited the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language at Chung Yuan University.  The University has done a tremendous amount of work developing their Center of Mandarin Learning.  Can you find me in the pic?  www.cycu.edu.tw

  • Visited the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission in Taipei.  The Commission has done a tremendous amount of work developing their Global Chinese Language & Culture Center and digital/e-learning opportunities to learn Mandarin.  www.ocac.gov.tw
  • Visited the National Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall also known as Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.  The memorial and grounds are huge.  In the pic below the memorial is approximately a half a mile away!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiang_Kai-shek
  • Visited the National Palace Museum.  We completed a guided tour of this amazing museum.  The museum showcases over 500,000 antiquities.  These "Treasured Objects" made from copper, jade, lacquer, and enamel to name a few, displayed some of the most amazing and intricate designs I've ever seen.  You'll have to visit the museum to see for yourself.   www.npm.gov.tw/en/home.htm

Notes:  It was a jam packed day filled with a lot of information and sites to be seen.  We've been greeted with such warmth and hospitality.  Definitely a great day to begin my Taiwan Adventure!
